When Citizens Assemble documents the deliberations of Ireland's Citizens' Assembly around the 8th Amendment to the Irish Constitution, a de facto ban on abortion. It's about making progress rather than seeking power. It's about the triumph of empathy and consensus over conflict and propaganda. It's about ordinary people being individually transformed as they collectively tackle a hot potato issue that traditional politics had serially failed to resolve. The Citizens' Assembly is chosen by lot and is an excellent example of representative, deliberative democracy in action. The film was funded by a grant from Australia's newDEMOCRACY Foundation.
